Academic Experience

Can you describe the weekly coursework for your Marketing major?
For the core marketing classes, there’s a decent amount of readings and projects on marketing as a whole. Last year I took a marketing research class where we had to go out and create a bunch of surveys and post on social media. We had to do a whole project on data collected by those surveys. There’s a lot of research and reading. Most of the graded assignments are projects and tests. There were a few essays, but not many.
Is there anything you feel the Marketing department does especially well or poorly?
I’d say what they do well is they make us branch out and open ourselves up to the public by doing projects and in-person surveys. It took us out of our comfort zone. I’d say the only bad thing is the work could be a little harder.
How would you describe the learning environment? Do you think it’s particularly collaborative or competitive?
I think it’s good. All of the core Marketing professors are good. People are more than willing to work with each other. There are a few people who don’t really trust their work in other people’s hands, but everyone is pretty friendly at Endicott.
What has been your favorite class in your major?
I’d say my Marketing Research class was the best one. The professor taught us well with a good blend of textbook work, projects, and quizzes.
What has been your least favorite class in your major?
My least favorite class was Public Relations. We kind of just sat in class and watched videos all day about how companies have handled good and bad public relation situations. It wasn’t a bad class, it was just was more videos and not textbook work.
How accessible are your professors?
They gave us their email and will respond whenever. Some gave us their phone numbers, and they said if it’s an emergency you can call them.
Why did you pick your major? Are you happy with your choice?
I’ve gone between Marketing and Finance, but I choose Marketing because I didn’t know how well I’d do in Finance. I know after college there’s a little more money there, and looking back I regret not doing Finance. I’m thinking about going back to get my masters in Finance after college.

Reasons to Attend

1) The internship program helps a lot.
2) If you love watching or playing sports, Endicott is known for being good at Division III sports.
3) The beaches and the downtown area is nice. It’s pretty easy to get around, and you’re not in the middle of nowhere.

Reasons Not to Attend

1) If you’re not too big into sports.

Around Campus

Where have you lived on campus?
Freshman: Brindle Hall with two roommates in a forced triple.
Sophomore: Stoneridge Hall in a triple.
Junior: Marblehead Hall with one roommate.
What was your favorite living situation?
I’d say probably my sophomore year with my two other friends. It was a little tight, but it worked out for us.
Can you describe the level of safety you’ve experienced on and around campus?
I’d say Endicott is pretty safe. My freshman year there was a drunk driving accident right off campus. I didn’t see it happen, but I walked by seconds after they crashed and saw everything. They were off of the campus, but the on campus safety is very good. Campus safety will help whenever you need them. I know some of my friends got hurt playing sports and are on crutches, and they’ll call campus safety to drive them around campus from building to building or back to their dorm.
What is your favorite off-campus restaurant?
A&B Burgers. It’s in Beverly and the burgers are very good.
What is your favorite place to get away from campus?
I don’t go to the beach that much, but Endicott there are two or three beaches across the street, so it’s kind of off campus. It’s good to go there and relax sometimes. [Endicott College has been ranked in the “30 Amazing Colleges at the Beach.”]

Social Opportunities

What kind of nightlife or weekend activities do you participate in?
Everything is mostly on campus. We have an on-campus bar there, and it’s popular on Thursday nights but not on the weekend. There are some bars in the area, but, other than that, people just hang out on campus on the weekends. People have parties in townhouses and apartment-style dorms.
What nights of the week do you like to go out? Are there certain things you do on certain nights?
Friday and Saturday, and sometimes on Thursdays.
What have been some of your favorite times at Endicott?
The basketball team was pretty good my freshman and sophomore year, and going to some of those games were fun. There are no fraternities so I can’t think of any good party, so I’d say just going to sporting events.
Can you describe a typical going out night freshman year?
We’d all hang out in our dorm with a ton of people and just wait and see what dorm is having a party. Endicott is kind of run by sports teams since there are no fraternities, which kind of stinks. I was lucky to have a connection to a bunch of [athletes], so I could get into their parties. I could see my other friends who didn’t know many students on a team or didn’t play a sport, and they struggled to get into parties.
What’s an alternative to going to a party or a bar that you like for a night out?
We’re pretty close to Boston and I haven’t been because I turned 21 this past November then went abroad, but definitely having that access is good. It’s about a 25-minute train ride, and I know I’ll take advantage of that next year. There are some places in Beverly with live music, but most students like staying on campus so they don’t have to pay for an Uber.
How happy are you with the nightlife options at Endicott? Is there anything you would change if you could?
I think it’s fine and is good for being a smaller school. There are some RAs that are stricter than others, which can hurt you.

Campus Culture

How did you meet your closest friends?
One of them was my roommate freshman year, and the other one lived right next door to me. My other friend was a few doors down my freshman year. We got pretty lucky.
How would you describe the overall social scene at Endicott?
It’s good I’d say. There aren’t many students who sit in their dorm and do nothing. There are some here and there, but most like to be involved socially and are on sports teams. I like to work out, and the guys I live with don’t like to party that much and that’s fine. No one will judge you for not going out.
To what extent do people of different races and sexual orientations mix socially?
There are different races. The international program is good at Endicott, and they bring in people from all over the world. One of my good friends is from Australia who plays a sport. It’s fun being friends with someone not from the U.S. Sexual orientation-wise, people don’t judge you for being straight or gay. I haven’t seen many instances of people being made fun of for who they’re interested in. [About 8% of undergraduates are international students.]
How would you describe the student body?
It’s pretty good. Most people are pretty into attending sporting events. Basketball and hockey games are big ones. Everyone gets pretty involved in stuff like community service too. [More than half of the undergraduate population volunteers annually.]
Do you think people are happy with their choice of Endicott by the time they graduate? Do you think people leave loving Endicott?
Yeah, I think so. Endicott is known for its internship program. You get your own internship professor, and you’re required to do three internships before you graduate. You need to do one the summer after freshman year, one in the summer after your sophomore year, and you also have an internship that you get a grade for. All the work is basically making cover letters, working on your resume, and networking. It’s not hard as long as you do all the work. You can then either do an internship the summer going into your senior year or during your first or second semester.

Careers

Has the alumni network helped you find internships or jobs?
I applied for one internship where an alum works and they put in a good word for me. Other than that, I haven’t tried to connect to other alumni.
What have you used the career office for? How helpful was it?
They’re very good. All of us get our own internship professor, and since I got back from studying abroad my professor has sent me a bunch of places to apply for. She’s always there for me and is always there to help.
