Academic Experience
Can you describe your weekly coursework for your major?
It differs from class to class, but there’s definitely a lot of reading. Almost every class has a couple of readings a week and for the math classes we have problem sets every week. A lot of the major grades are papers asking you to apply what you’ve learned in class to real world situations.
Is there anything that you feel your department does especially well or especially poorly?
I think the Public Health department could tailor itself more towards certain Public Health jobs, but I think it does a good job of giving a broad knowledge of a bunch of different areas of Public Health.
How would you describe the learning environment?
I think it’s pretty accepting. People feel free to contribute whatever they want in class. Students in my experience are willing to help each other out and have study groups and stuff.
What was your favorite class in your major?
Foundations of Health Care Systems, we got to learn about healthcare in the US and other different countries.
What was your least favorite class in your major?
Biostatistics
What is a fun class you’ve taken outside of your major?
I took a [Social Work] class called [Guns and Gangs: At Risk Youth in the Inner City] that was pretty interesting. I also took a nutrition class that I liked.
Are you happy with your major choice?
Yes.

Around Campus
Where did you live on campus?
Freshman: Monroe with one roommate.
Sophomore: Irby with one roommate but in a suite of eight girls.
Junior/Senior: House off-campus.
What was your favorite living situation?
I guess living in a house has been nicer, but living in a dorm with 7 of your closest friends was awesome.
Can you describe the level of safety you have experienced on and around campus?
We try to never walk anywhere alone because NOLA isn’t known for its safety. I’ve never felt unsafe walking around campus, but there have been reports so we try not to walk alone at night.
What is your favorite off-campus restaurant?
Emeril’s Delmonico
What is your favorite place to get away from campus?
The Fly

How did you meet your closest friends?
They were on my floor freshman year.
How would you describe the social scene at Tulane?
Partying all the time.
How would you describe the student body?
I think the student body, as a whole, takes studying very seriously. We are all very academically oriented, but we also know how to have a good time.
Do you feel students of different races and sexual orientations mix socially?
That’s the biggest adjustment I’ve seen coming from a public high school close to DC. I had every type of person [at my high school], but here there’s some diversity but not that much. [22% of the Class of 2022 are students of color.]
Do you think people are happy with their choice of Tulane by senior year? Do you think people love Tulane?
Yes, definitely.

Has the alumni network helped you find internships or jobs?
Me personally, no, but I do know a lot of people that have had that.
What did you use the career office for?
I didn’t utilize it.
Have you learned any computer programs that have been or will be helpful to you professionally?
No.
