Did you know that CounselMore members take as few as 45 minutes to build school lists?!

In July, the most-often-chosen, top 750 Schools including the most chosen data points for each school were updated.

As of August 3rd, all of Common App supplemental essay prompts had been collected. The task has been completed efficiently and ahead of schedule.

Given the time saved, there should be ample opportunity for thorough verification.

Tip: If you choose to have your students validate their app requirements; try using the "Student Research" column. This column is edit-able by the student. Or try generating an assignment directly from the App Tracker Essay Status column. Call to action, that the student verify their application requirements. Upon completing the task, the student will check 'done', as they do with any other task.

Warning: Many consultants are reporting the increased use of "stealth essays". If that term is new to you, the Assignments package explains the different types of essays. If you are aware that a school is using the stealth essay strategy, inform your colleagues by entering notes into the "Counselors' Opinions" column. This is where most consultants were able to gain warning signals last year.

Double Warning: Any school, at any time, without any warning can change any portion of their application. If you become aware of a change make it known to your support team ASAP. You can do this through your app Help menu or you can correct the data yourself, so that your platform reflects what you know immediately.

Tip: Are you aware of a change in admissions information and you'd like your screen to reflect what you know immediately? Correct the information yourself by submitting a data correction through your app. This will change your screen immediately. Meanwhile, your support team will validate your submission.

Data Questions Answered:

"Is the Fiske referenced in the CounselMore database the updated Fiske guide that I purchased form Amazon?"

No.

"Why?"

Because the paperback publication that can be purchased from Amazon is not Fiske as you have come to know it. That resource no longer exists. The name "Fiske" is a trusted brand name that was sold to a educational services company. The publishing rites are still owned by the publisher. The most recent Fiske is an "edition" that the publisher has the rite to sell.

What is an "edition"?

Each year college students have to buy new text books. Many are frustrated when the professor stipulates they must purchase the most recent "edition", even if there are very few changes...if any.

What am I seeing in the CounselMore database now?

To our knowledge, the CounselMore database is not reflecting the most recent Fiske edition. With no way of qualifying or quantifying what has been authentically updated and what has not been authentically updated, we cannot validate it. Moreover, the index data supplied by Fiske is redundant and outdated next to CounselMore's data.

The campus narratives are still good tools to help a family become acquainted with a campus and remain available to you. But the resource we came to know, no longer exists. We have made contact with all stakeholders to stay informed on which of the new owners (if any) will inherit the responsibility of updating narratives. We will keep you updated.
